This 25000 ha national park around extinct volcano baluran. consist in 5 zones.: the Main Zone (12,000 ha), the Wildness Zone (5,537 ha, made of 1,063 ha water and 4,574 ha land), the Intensive Utilization Zone (800 ha), the Specific Utilization Zone (5,780 ha) and the Rehabilitation Zone (783 ha)
In this park Javan tigers survived in the protected area until the mid-1960s
Declared national park in 1980, the area was already protected since 1928 and became a wildlife refuge in 1937.
After decades of poaching, banteng population decreased drasticaly until new management restore proper protection to the fauna.
Water buffaloes, Bentang buffaloes, dears, monkeys and myriads of birds will enjoy your day tour. Whilst few leopards survived the sad era such encounter is very, regarding the habits of this animal.
